2006 was Twenty Years ago. Yeah, let that sink in.
Here’s a throwback to May 2006 when I was a guest on a local radio show. The topic of the episode was “Pinoy Podcasting”, which started gaining popularity the year before. The DJ invited a couple of local podcasts that had hosts who were available for the show on a Thursday night. It also helped that Jay was friends with Ea, who worked at the station.
My friend Rickey (who was in New York) and his friend Jay (who was in Metro Manila) were running their own podcast, “The Basang Sisiw Show” (a Filipino figure of speech, which translates to “The Wet Chicken Chick Show”) under the online aliases KidFlashX and Manong Guard on Live.usa.ph. Fellow guest Chica (who was visiting from the U.S. West Coast) had a podcast with Obet (also on the West Coast) and Dre (in the Midwest) on Putanginamo.com (or Ninjashow.com).

Messenger or Skype group call using Audacity to an MP3 file, which I would edit, then upload to a self-hosted WordPress website where visitors could either listen to / stream each episode on-site (via a plugin) or download them as MP3s to open/play locally.
- Visitors/Listeners could comment on each episode’s post.
- We also ran an online bulletin board on-site (via bbPress) for the small community of listeners, which included Gatochrome‘s coworkers at Alorica (a BPO in Pasig).
