After watching the May 3 Pacquiao vs. Hatton fight, my in-law’s and I went over to Jam’s Tito Mandy’s house in Calamba. It was for an extended celebration of Jam’s and her nephew Barnett’s birthday.

We walked off some of the excess food by taking Johann to the nearby park, on his first stroller ride. Click here to view the album of photos.

Lunch buffet reception followed at Kamayan sa Palaisdaan sa Ba’y, Ba’y, Laguna.

The family celebration continued way into the night at the Angeles Residence in Pila, Laguna as April 18 is also Johann’s Lola Melly’s birthday.

Greetings from Pila, Laguna! Our new, little family has been on a visit (vacation?) to Jam’s parents and sibs since Wednesday. They are all having a great time getting to know “the new guy” in the family.

For us yesterday, January 26, it was: (1) Chinese New Year, (2) the first solar/annular eclipse of 2009, and (3) Johann Raphael’s first day home.

Chef Tonio says;

“Kung Hei Fat Choi” is the cantonese way of greeting people during Chinese New Year. This means — Congratulations and be prosperous. It doesn’t mean “Happy New Year”. “Kiong Hee Huat Chai” is the Fookien version. “Gong Xi Fa Cai” is the Mandarin version. Happy New Year in Fookien is “Sin Ni Kuai Lok”. In Mandarin – “Xin Nian Kuai Le”.

Happy Lunar New Year! Happy Year of the Ox! Here’s wishing us all a healthy, wealthy and prosperous Chinese New Year!

The solar eclipse we had heard about over the weekend completely slipped our minds. National Geographic shows what we missed in the late afternoon Manila sky (the full annular eclipse was visible from Bandar Lampung in Indonesia):

Yesterday’s eclipse was eclipsed for my wife and myself by our returning home from the hospital and settling in with our son. We began the new year with a new chapter in life, as new parents. Wish us luck! I know we’ll need lots of it.

Here’s a video documenting the arrival of our son, Johann Raphael Angeles Padero – our beautiful, darling boy. This AVP photo-montage-music-video is a wonderful gift from its creator, RB, who chose the featured song, “Two Words” by Lea Salonga.

I remember first hearing Lea sing when she performed at my nursery school, back in the early 80′s. Incidentally, she happens to be one of Jade’s favorite singers.

Multiple attempts to upload the video on YouTube (still leeching off the free wi-fi access here at teh hospital) were taking too long, so here it is below, on MetaCafe instead. Enjoy!
