This is the first of four locations that I will be traveling to within the next 55 hours or so. #ChallengeAccepted

Status posts to the Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr sent via MMS to Ping.fm were failing (AGAIN!) while I was waiting at the airport gate. MMS text posts to my Facebook mobile email address were delayed. What worked best were posts to 2933 (Globe SMS) for Facebook and to 2363 (also Globe). Ergo, I was not able to feed my Tumblr pensieve.

Seeing the sun rising above the plateau that is the Lumbia airport of CDO made me sleepy. I was wide awake during the flight from Manila. I felt so disconnected from the Interwebs while up in the air.

Thanks to my cousin Pia for picking us up at the airport at 0545h.

Thanks to my cousin Ben for letting me squat on his MacBookPro. I am currently getting my WWW fix. The typefaces of the iOS Snow are purrty! Still, the simplicity of this makes me feel like a car mechanic who loves to tweak & tinker, being frustrated with the new cars of today that do not require nor allow much tinkering nor tweaking. Win-OS-dinosaur-me is using a MBP in memoriam of Steve Jobs.

I keep trying to CTRL+C and CTRL+V. Ben has told me they use Command+C and Command+V on this thing.

Thanks to my Tito Boy (we are truly Filipino! LOL) and Tita Mayette who are letting me crash at their house until I go on to my next destination at dawn on Sunday. My uncle has Anne Murray Christmas Songs playing from his iTunes in the other room. I hear he downloads Torrents, too! Cool. #OldButHip

Sayonara, Friendster!

Before MySpace and Facebook, there was Friendster, a pioneering social networking website for consumers. First launched in 2002, Friendster attracted tens of millions of users over the years, but it never quite grew into the online juggernaut it could have been.

Having raised close to $50 million in venture capital, Friendster was acquired by Malaysian payments company MOL Global at the end of 2009 for a reported $40 million.

Fast forward to today, and it looks like Friendster won’t be so much about sharing with friends anymore. In a message to registered members (hat tip to @Mazi), the company is asking all users to install a custom application to export all their profile data, as most of it will be unequivocally deleted on May 31, 2011.

On the help forum, Friendster encourages all users to use the “Friendster Exporter” app to download or export their profile information, friends list, photos, messages, comments, testimonials, shoutouts, blogs and groups. Options include porting content to Flickr or Multiply.

On May 31, Friendster will move to wipe out all photos, blogs, comments and groups uploaded or created by its users. The company will, however, keep all accounts alive, along with user friends lists, games details and basic profile information.

The new Friendster should be going live in the coming weeks and focus mainly on Asian users.

Here’s another old video I dug up from years ago.

Remember the Nokia 8110 (phone used by Neo in The Matrix movie) and 7110? Well, here’s my own customized “banana-shaped/type” version of a Nokia 6300, thanks to not one, but two drops of the rear door of an AUV (a cross between a mini van and sport utility vehicle).

What is this I don’t even…

How did it happen? I sat in the rear of the vehicle with the rear door open and I had placed my phone beside me. When I got up, I forgot my phone was still there when I brought the door down shut. The door seemed stuck, so I opened and shut it again.

Other than the broken LCD and the new banana shape, the phone still worked fine.

The video was taken on November 7, 2007.

I haven’t done any C++ programming in ages. Yet, here I am on the ‘puter in the wee hours of the night. I work on it. I also unwind on it (usually). Sometimes I itch for my next fix to sit at it to do something, anything. Other times I just want to break free from it and not have to touch its peripherals again.

Graco Pack ‘n Play Unboxing

So far, I’ve posted unboxing photos of tech gadgets such as routers and wireless video cameras. Yet another first for me, here are unboxing photos of a non-tech-gadget item: a Graco Pack ‘n Play, Portable Playard (Kirkwood Collection) with

cozy quilted bassinet
changer for diaper duty
push-button fold
wind-up mobile

Okay so after the last photo above, I kinda got carried away and forgot about the camera. A crying baby can do that to you. I just unpacked the whole thing and assembled it quickly and easily enough without having to resort to RTM (reading teh manual). Eureka – all those childhood years of assembling Lego sets has lead to this moment of crib assembly.

I wasn’t as prepared to document the unboxing of the Graco Glider Travel System (also Kirkwood Collection to match teh crib) last week. I kinda ripped the box open, grabbed the car seat bit, and stuffed it in the car. A wife in labor can do that to you.
