Happy Fourth of July! I met it head on with a bang by catching the last full show of the new Transformers movie over at Greenbelt 3 at 11:30 PM last night with a couple of buddies. That’s just what the movie has – a lot of bang.

The expected mixed feelings discussion and comparison with the Transformers (Generation 1) cartoon series ensued over a couple of bruskies after the show. The hairline plot and loose ends are almost made up for by the overload of special effects, shallow gags, and usual tongue-in-cheek lines of yet another film in the comic-book/cartoon to live action movie genre. To enjoy this movie, switch your brain off and forget about the 80′s cartoon.

Maybe H-O-T “teenage drama queen” Megan Fox (who plays protagonist Spike’s love interest/heroine) may distract male viewers enough for us to forgive the movie’s shortcomings. Check her out as a guest in a 2004 episode of Two and a Half Men:

Check out Megan Fox in Transformers checking out Spike’s engine and headers (actually Bumblebee’s) while Spike checks her out:

Finally, here’s a comprehensive and professional 10-minute video of the Transformers movie with clips from the cartoon at the beginning and end. Watch it until the end to get a glimpse of Peter Cullen himself, who has always been behind the voice of Optimus Prime and countless other 80′s cartoon characters:
